The SABC-HLP Cryobiobank Platform is built upon decades of pioneering expertise in cryobiology and biobanking. Led by scientists who are memberaaas of the International Cryobiology Society, the platform has made fundamental contributions to the science of cryopreservation. In 1983, SABC-HLP scientists reported the world's first successful rapid freezing and thawing of mammalian embryos following partial dehydration at room temperature (Nguyen, Renard & Garnier, Cryobiology, 1983). This pioneering work established the principle that controlled partial dehydration before rapid freezing could prevent intracellular ice formation, providing the scientific foundation for the vitrification approaches that are now routinely used in assisted reproductive technologies worldwide

These technologies have been successfully applied to the cryopreservation of livestock embryos, semen, oocytes, and somatic cells for animal breeding and genetic conservation, as well as fertility preservation for human assisted reproduction. The platform also pioneered human semen cryopreservation and intrauterine insemination (IUI) programs in Vietnam, demonstrating its ability to translate cutting-edge cryobiology into reliable clinical and agricultural applications with high preservation efficiency and reproducible outcomes.
Through strategic collaborations with international partners, including Future Health Biobank and other global leaders in regenerative medicine, SABC-HLP is continuously strengthening its biobanking capabilities by implementing internationally recognized quality management systems and manufacturing standards. The platform is being developed in alignment with GMP, cGMP, AABB, ISO 9001, and the regulatory expectations of the FDA and EMA for advanced cell therapies, establishing a robust foundation for future clinical translation and international collaboration
